I just finished David McCullough's book The Great Bridge, the account of the building of the Brooklyn Bridge was fasinating and much more comprehensive than the video by the same name.

Another book is Rising Tide (The Great Mississippi Flood of 1927) by John M Barry which gives an interesting account of the beginnings of the Civil Engineering Profession and Charles Eads.

Does any one else have books that they would recommend ?
