Is it usual for companies to pay for exam prep courses for professional licensing?

Good private companies should cover that expense for you.  You might have a challenge having a public agency paying for it but they will try.  I would highly encourage you to pursue professional licensure early in your career because you will forget your undergrad classes over time if you do not use them.

I work as a recruiter an in almost all instances mentoring, training, exams and your license should be paid for by your company.

Yes, most companies should pay for, or certainly contribute to your licensing preparation.

Corporate recruiters:  should these students ask in an interview setting about this or will you think they are just looking at "what they can get" from an employer?   Huh  Please respond and help these students out...

Some companies do and some don't.  If you are looking to continue your education or obtain your license you should ask any potential employer that question during the interview process.

Many companies do pay for exam prep courses and continuing education.  They may have a cap per year for expenses or in some cases require a certain length of employment (12 months for example) before they will reimburse you.
