Does your firm have a formal flextime policy?
Does it allow 4 10 hour days, 8 9 hour and one 8 hour, etc?
Approval & notification requirements?

We don't have a formal policy but we are pretty flexible with most EEs on accommodating their schedules. However, we continually talk about formalizing a policy but it just hasn't been on the front burner. It's a difficult discussion b/c there are plenty of jobs where a "flex schedule" is not going to be approved b/c that particular EE needs to cover a certain work shift.

Recently I was talking to an HR Director who was also researching "Flexible Friday" schedules.  In the past, it was usually a summer schedule working extra hours M-TH and taking a half day on Fridays.  However, within the HR department, we rotated one person who had to work all day Friday to handle employee issues (and the phones!)  It worked well throughout the entire mid size civil engineering firm.  It does take good Management to oversee.

The conversation also turned to extending these summer hours or flexible hours to allow for a 4 day workweek due to the increase in gas prices.  Has anyone considered a 4 day work week?
