If you were caught in a downsizing, did your company offer you resources to help you identify opportunities?  If so, what type:  recruiter referrals?  niche job board sites? outplacement assistance?

Our company makes it a point to help those unfortunate employees out in every way possible.  We keep a list of ex-employees regularly updated so that when a position does open up, they are the first call.  Additionally, we put together a specific packet together for that person on where and how to find another job, and assist with resume writing.

I know most companies don't have those sorts of resources, but having someone in your corner is a nice thing to do to get these people get through a tough time.
