I am not sure if this story got beyond the local Philadelphia area media market, but an un-scheduled bridge inspection found a major flaw in a structural bridge column that shut down a portion of I-95 for 2 days.  Kudos to the inspection team for finding this, as this could have easily become another tragic national headline...another prime example as to the deteriorating state of the U.S. infrastructure.  Follow this link for for the story: http://www.philly.com/inquirer/front_page/20080319_I-95_support_column_was_poor_in_inspection.html
